Zendster launches Smooth Streaming demo site
Zendster Streaming Media starts with Smooth Streaming, thus becoming the first Belgian video provider to offer these services. Based on Microsoft Internet Information Server 7, this new technology combines the benefits of traditional video streaming with those of progressive downloads such as YouTube.
Smooth Streaming video starts almost immediately, without buffering. Gradually, the quality of the images increases to the highest quality the viewer can get, based on the speed of their internet connection and computer. Technically, video files are cut into clips of about 2 seconds length in different qualities each. The player decides which ones will be downloaded, based on the resources available. Communication is done over the HTTP protocol, requiring no special infrastructure at network level.
